1. At the beginning of the poem, Seamus is sitting in his bedroom looking at his farther digging for potatoes.
2.The sight of his farther digging reminds him of 20 years ago.

1.The poet uses onomatopoeia a number of times. The first example i am going to use is 'the squelch and slap of soggy peat.' This immediately reminds you of the mud that the poet describes.
